THE ATTACK ON PEARL HARBOUR General information : The attack on Pearl Harbour was a random surprise military attack from the Japanese Navy towards a US naval base at the Pearl Harbour at the coast of Hawaii. This attack occurred on December 7, 1941. Just before 8 a.m. they used hundreds of planes to crash down onto the base, destroying battleships, planes, and killing over 2000 people. The Japanese plan was simple: Destroy the Pacific Fleet. That way, the Americans would not be able to fight back as Japan’s armed forces spread across the South Pacific. Since early 1941 the U.S. had been supplying Great Britain in its fight against the Nazis. The Japanese military was responsible for this attack; Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto conceived the Pearl Harbour attack and Captain Minoru Genda planned it.
